Where do you begin? Planning must be the foundation of any successful business. One of the first things I leaned from Alex Jeffreys was to plan out were you want to go. If you take a trip somewhere without a road map or itinerary it can be fun but probably not as successful as you would like it to be. It is much harder to drive cross country to a destination without a map or directions and still get there on time. A business will be like a journey when you know where you want to go and plan on how you are going to get there. It has been said many times that failing to plan becomes a plan to fail. In a successful business venture failure should not be a desirable option.
Treat your business as a business and not as a hobby. This is where the greatest rewards will be found. The foundation is as important as the rest of the structure and planning will help create a solid base in which to grow a successful business. Seek advice when needed as this can save you time and effort. This is perhaps the biggest advantage in having a mentor such as Alex who can help you along the way. With a plan, a business structure and help from others when needed the journey becomes much less difficult. Start to plan you success today and put your plan into action. No one else can do it for you.
